FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Fayette County to assist residents affected by severe storms that struck parts of West Virginia in August.
The West Virginia Emergency Management Division announced that the center opened Friday, November 6, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building, located at 200 W. Maple Avenue in Fayetteville.
The center is operated in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Small Business Administration (SBA), and Fayette County officials.
The opening follows a federal major disaster declaration issued October 8, 2026, for Fayette, Harrison, and Kanawha counties.
Residents in those counties who experienced property damage or other disaster-related expenses from storms between August 14 and August 18 may qualify for federal Individual Assistance.
The Disaster Recovery Center allows residents to meet with FEMA representatives in person, register for assistance, and receive information about available disaster recovery programs.
The center’s regular operating hours are Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The center will be closed November 11, November 14, and November 26-28. Its final scheduled day of operation is Wednesday, December 2.
Residents do not have to visit the center to apply for assistance. Applications can also be submitted online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling FEMA at 800-621-3362, or through the FEMA mobile app.
The deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance is December 7, 2026.
