COAL CITY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A wild early morning pursuit on May 17, 2025, ended with one man in custody after leading troopers on a dangerous high-speed chase through Raleigh County — and kicking an officer during his arrest.
At approximately 2:10 a.m., a West Virginia State Trooper patrolling near Coal City Road observed a white male, later identified as Joey Raines Jr., recklessly turning onto the road from Lundale Drive on a dirt bike with no visible lights. The trooper noted the man was driving dangerously in the opposite lane of traffic, nearly causing a head-on collision with another vehicle.
The suspect sped off through several residential areas along Coal City Road before veering onto Corey Lane and eventually crashing the dirt bike into a wooded area. Troopers gave chase on foot and located the suspect entangled in a briar patch near the wrecked bike.
When officers attempted to take the man into custody, he actively resisted and ignored multiple commands. During the struggle to return him to the patrol vehicle, the suspect became aggressive, ultimately kicking one trooper in the groin before officers were able to subdue and detain him.
Despite the resistance, no serious injuries were reported. The suspect now faces multiple charges, including fleeing with reckless indifference, obstructing an officer, assault on a law enforcement officer, and various traffic-related offenses.
The incident remains under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
