CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey, joined by First Lady Denise Morrisey and Dr. Angie Settle, CEO of WV Health Right, officially launched the organization’s new Mobile Teaching Kitchen. The unveiling event, held during a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live cooking demonstration, marks a major milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to promote healthier lifestyles through education and access.
The initiative is part of Governor Morrisey’s broader “Make West Virginia Healthy” campaign, aimed at addressing chronic illness and improving overall wellness throughout the Mountain State.
“West Virginia Health Right’s new Mobile Teaching Kitchen represents the kind of innovative, community-centered approach that can help tackle chronic illness and promote lasting wellness across the state,” Governor Morrisey said. “By increasing access to practical nutrition education and preventive care, this initiative is taking meaningful steps to support our mission to make West Virginia healthy again.”
First Lady Denise Morrisey echoed the Governor’s enthusiasm, emphasizing the program’s impact on families and communities. “The Mobile Teaching Kitchen is a great example of how innovation, love of community, and creativity can come together to improve lives,” she said. “By showing families how to prepare healthy meals and understand nutrition and the vital role that food choices play in overall health, WV Health Right is giving people across our state the tools they need to build stronger, healthier futures.”
Dr. Angie Settle, who leads WV Health Right, described the kitchen as more than a vehicle—it’s a mobile hub for wellness. “This mobile unit is a classroom, a clinic, and a lifeline, giving every West Virginian the tools to make informed, healthier choices, no matter where they live,” she said. “By making health education accessible and engaging, we’re bringing a ‘food as medicine’ approach directly into neighborhoods, community events, and non-traditional healthcare settings in West Virginia.”
The Mobile Teaching Kitchen is a fully equipped, state-of-the-art unit designed to travel across West Virginia, delivering hands-on cooking demonstrations, preventive health screenings, and access to WV Health Right’s wide range of healthcare services. It stands as a mobile beacon of health, empowering residents with knowledge and resources that support long-term wellness.
As it begins its journey across the state, the Mobile Teaching Kitchen is set to play a key role in addressing food insecurity, chronic disease prevention, and health education—bringing hope and healthier habits to communities large and small.
