WYTHEVILLE, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A drug investigation that began with a welfare check in Wytheville has led to the seizure of more than eight pounds of methamphetamine, 7.5 pounds of fentanyl, three firearms, and $18,054 in cash.
Wytheville Police Chief Hash praised the cooperative effort.
“This operation is a prime example of successful cooperation across state lines,” he said.
“The collective effort by the Wytheville Police Department Patrol Division, Wytheville Police Department Narcotics Division, the Claytor Lake Drug Task Force, and the West Virginia Southwest Regional Drug Task Force has stopped a pipeline and removed these large, deadly quantities of narcotics—including over seven pounds of fentanyl—before they could ever flood our streets here in Wytheville and the surrounding communities.”
The Claytor Lake Regional Drug Task Force, which includes the Wytheville Police Department, Virginia State Police, Pulaski Police Department, and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, spearheaded the operation.
The case began in late August when Wytheville Police responded to a welfare check for two individuals passed out at a local gas station.
Officers discovered five ounces of methamphetamine, $2,168 in cash, and scales.
The investigation quickly expanded into a joint operation with West Virginia authorities.
The Claytor Lake Regional Drug Task Force partnered with the Southwest Regional Drug Task Force, which includes agencies from southern West Virginia.
Investigators focused on a Princeton, West Virginia, residence believed to be supplying multiple distributors in the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia.
On September 11, 2025, the Southwest Regional Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence, where they recovered eight pounds of methamphetamine, 7.5 pounds of fentanyl, three firearms, and $15,886 in cash.
An arrest has been made, and authorities say the case remains under active investigation.
