MONONGALIA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Kentucky man has been arrested and charged with malicious assault and strangulation following a domestic dispute near MontChateau Road and the Ices Ferry Bridge, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the area on March 30 after a witness reported seeing a man drag a woman from the back of a black SUV.
Upon arrival, officers found the female victim suffering from severe injuries, including heavy bleeding from the back of her head and visible swelling and bruising on her face.
The victim later told detectives that her longtime boyfriend, Jonathan Lee Mathis, assaulted her with a rock during an argument and left her injured in a parking lot.
Mathis was later arrested without incident at his residence in Cornerstone Village on an unrelated warrant out of Florida.
Based on witness statements and evidence, he was formally charged with malicious assault and strangulation.
He is currently at North Central Regional Jail on a $75,000 bond.
