SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested Friday after firing multiple gunshots through the front door of a home in an attempt to break in, according to the Summers County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded to a residence on Doug Craft Road in the Hilldale area on March 28 after receiving reports that Norton Canterbury was trying to force his way inside.
Authorities determined that Canterbury, who was in a relationship with the woman inside, had fired several rounds through the door before fleeing the scene.
Deputies later located Canterbury on Brookside Drive in Forest Hill, where they were able to talk him out of a residence and take him into custody.
Canterbury faces multiple charges, including domestic assault, wanton endangerment, firing a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, obstructing, attempted felony, and destruction of property.
The Summers County Sheriff’s Department thanked the West Virginia State Police and the Hinton Police Department for their swift response.
Sheriff Justin L. Faris noted that many incidents of this nature do not end peacefully and expressed gratitude that this one did.
