BELINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Barbour County man is facing serious charges after deputies say he assaulted his 8-year-old nephew and threatened to kill him during a domestic incident Sunday in Belington.
According to the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy C. Curkendall responded to a home on North Custer Street on December 14, 2025, after receiving a report of a violent altercation involving a child.
Mother Says Abuse Had Been Ongoing
At the scene, a witness told deputies that her brother, Kevin Ray McCaulley, had been staying at the home for several weeks and had repeatedly been violent toward her young son during that time.
She said McCaulley had threatened to harm the child on multiple occasions — and on Sunday, she said he became enraged, threatened to kill the boy, and physically attacked him.
Deputies Say Suspect Admitted to Assault
During the investigation, McCaulley admitted to deputies that he shoved and kicked the child with the intent to cause harm.
The assault left the child injured, and deputies say McCaulley’s actions placed the boy at risk of serious bodily harm.
Charges Pending
Based on the investigation, deputies determined that McCaulley had maliciously assaulted the 8-year-old and made explicit threats to kill him.
He was taken into custody. Charges are expected to include child abuse and malicious assault, with additional charges possible as the investigation continues.
