WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – More than 82,000 customers across West Virginia were without electricity as of 6 a.m. Friday following a strong line of storms that moved through the state overnight, according to data from PowerOutage.com.
The outage tracking site reported 82,728 customers without power statewide out of more than 1 million customers monitored.
The outages were spread across multiple regions, with the highest numbers concentrated in central and southern West Virginia.
Kanawha County reported the largest number of outages, with 10,995 customers affected. Mingo County followed with 5,034 outages, while Taylor County reported 4,909 customers without power. Marion County had 4,699 outages, and Calhoun County reported 4,332.
Additional significant outages were reported in Harrison County with 4,232 customers affected, Raleigh County with 3,922, and Logan County with 3,516.
The outages occurred after a powerful line of storms swept across the state late Thursday night into early Friday morning.
The storms brought strong winds and heavy rain, which likely caused trees and limbs to fall onto power lines and damaged electrical equipment.
Residents are urged to stay clear of downed power lines and to report outages or hazards directly to their local utility providers.
