PINEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) One person has died following an early-morning structure fire on Edgewood Street in Pineville, according to local authorities.
At approximately 3:22 a.m. on December 18, 2025, fire crews were dispatched to the scene after reports of a residential structure fire. Responding agencies included the local fire department and the Mullens Fire Department.
Law enforcement officers from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and the Pineville Police Department arrived on scene prior to fire units. Upon arrival, officers encountered neighboring family members attempting to enter the burning structure in an effort to rescue a trapped individual. However, the rapid growth and intensity of the fire prevented entry.
During fire suppression operations, firefighters located the body of an adult female inside the residence. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office and the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner were called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The victim’s body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for positive identification and an autopsy.
Another adult female was able to escape the structure safely and was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel. An adult male neighbor was also treated on scene by EMS.
Additional responding agencies included the Brenton Volunteer Fire Department, the Oceana Fire Department, and STAT EMS.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
