WHEELING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Wheeling Police Department is investigating after a body was found near the shoreline of the Ohio River Monday morning.
Police said the report of a deceased person in the water was received around 8:20 a.m. Officers from the Bellaire Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department and the Wheeling Police Department responded to the scene near the Interstate 470 Bridge on the Bellaire, Ohio, side of the river.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of a deceased individual in the water. The body was recovered with assistance from the Wheeling Fire Department.
Authorities said the person has not yet been identified.
The body will be transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for identification. Police said that process could take several days or weeks.
Wheeling police detectives will work with the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause and manner of death. Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
