MONONGALIA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Monday evening on Interstate 79 Northbound.
According to the sheriff’s office, MECCA 911 received an emergency call at approximately 8:01 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, reporting a collision about one-quarter mile south of the Goshen Road exit.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2015 GMC Terrain was traveling northbound when the driver entered a construction equipment staging area located on the right side of the roadway.
Investigators said the vehicle struck a stationary excavator that was parked within the staging area just prior to the interstate bridge over Tom’s Run.
One fatality has been confirmed as a result of the crash. The identities of those involved are being withheld at this time pending notification.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Monongalia County EMS, Triune-Halleck Volunteer Fire Department, and Clinton District Volunteer Fire Department. Waterfront Towing also responded to assist with vehicle removal.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
