HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — The Summers County Commission has scheduled a public hearing to consider the creation of a new countywide public service district aimed at expanding water and sewer services to underserved areas.
The hearing will take place on March 11, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the Summers County Commission Office inside the Summers County Courthouse in Hinton.
According to the notice, the proposed district would be called the Summers County Public Service District and would have authority over both water and sewer utilities.
County officials say the proposal is being considered to address infrastructure needs in areas outside the City of Hinton and outside existing public service districts that currently provide water and sewer service. The commission believes forming a countywide district would better serve residents who lack access to utilities or live in areas where service expansion is not immediately planned.
Notices of the hearing will be posted and published, and the West Virginia Public Service Commission will be notified. Residents who wish to comment, ask questions, or speak either in support of or opposition to the proposal are encouraged to attend the hearing.
