ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – GEAR UP Southern West Virginia (GEAR UP SWV) is sharing a new way to explore possible careers. Through a program with New River Community and Technical College (New River CTC), students can experience possible paths to take after graduating from high school through Virtual Reality (VR) simulations. Some of the paths high school students can select include healthcare, engineering, public safety, skilled trades, and more. The media is invited to attend any of the remaining scheduled presentations.
WHEN & WHERE:
-
Wyoming County, Westside – Feb. 23 (during school day)
-
Mercer County, PikeView High – February 25 & March 10, (during school hours)
-
Mercer County, Montcalm High – February 27, (between 1:20 p.m. and 3 p.m.)
-
Wyoming County – Wyoming East – March 3 & 24 (during school hours)
WHY:
The VR Career Exploration initiative helps students discover high-demand career exploration while getting virtual ‘hands-on’ experience with simulations. Students will also understand the education or training required after high school to reach this career. After the experience, each student receives a personalized career report to support postsecondary planning and career readiness.
