FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Greg Fernett, a member of the Fayette County Commission, has passed away, according to statements from local organizations.
No additional details regarding his death have been released at this time.
Fernett was in his second year serving as a county commissioner.
In addition to his public service, he was known for a respected career in the coal industry and for his involvement in officiating high school sports.
In a statement, Midland Trail Football shared: “It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Greg Fernett, a beloved figure in the community and a well-known personality. He was a dedicated official for the WVSSAC. We extend our condolences to his family and friends.”
The Fayetteville Fire Department also released a statement, saying: “Fayetteville Fire Department wishes to extend condolences to the family of our Assistant Chief Joel Fernett. His father, Fayette County Commissioner Greg Fernett passed today. Commissioner Fernett was a strong supporter of Fayette County Fire Departments and worked tirelessly to make Fayette County a better place for all its citizens. Please keep Joel’s family in your prayers.”
