FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Commission has announced a vacancy for the Plateau District commissioner seat following the death of Commissioner Greg Fernett.
In a statement released Monday, the commission said it is accepting resumes from qualified applicants through noon on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Applicants must submit a resume detailing their qualifications, relevant experience and knowledge of the duties of a county commissioner as outlined in West Virginia state code.
Applications can be emailed to the commission or delivered in person to the Fayette County Administrator’s Office.
To be eligible, applicants must reside in the Plateau District of Fayette County and must have been a registered Republican voter in Fayette County for at least one year prior to the application deadline.
The commission said preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the knowledge, skills and experience needed to maintain continuity of operations during the transition period.
“The sitting Commissioners deeply appreciate Commissioner Fernett’s service to Fayette County, and the Commission remains committed to ensuring continuity of operations and service to the public during this transition,” the commission said in a statement.
“Qualified individuals interested in serving their community are encouraged to apply.”
