FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he was caught carrying suspected stolen copper wiring from a restricted salvage yard before fleeing into the woods.
According to authorities, deputies were called Sunday, May 24, 2026, to investigate a fire in the Carlisle area of Fayette County involving a possible fatality.
While responding to the scene around 5:05 p.m., an officer observed a white male carrying two buckets filled with what appeared to be copper wiring.
Shortly afterward, deputies learned the owner of the fire scene had been located and they were no longer needed there. The officer then returned to the area where the man had been seen and observed him carrying empty buckets into a clearly marked no-trespassing area owned by Empire Salvage and Recycling.
The man was later identified as Timothy Harris of the Scarbro area.
According to the report, Harris claimed he had permission to collect copper and aluminum from the property and showed deputies a stockpile of items he had already gathered.
Deputies later contacted the property owners, who reportedly stated Harris did not have permission to be on the property.
Authorities say Harris was instructed to wait while deputies verified the information, but instead fled into nearby woods after being told to stop. He was later captured and arrested.
