BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Police Department will roll out a new Uptown Bike Patrol Initiative beginning Monday, June 30, 2025.
The program aims to increase safety, community engagement, and visibility in the Uptown district.
Four officers will be assigned to the bike patrol, with a focus on crime prevention, responding to quality-of-life concerns, and building closer connections with the community.
“The bike unit gives us a chance to connect with residents, business owners, and visitors in a more personal and accessible way,” said Chief Dean R. Bailey. “Whether it’s a safety concern or just a friendly wave, we’re here for it.”
The officers will patrol during peak daytime and evening hours throughout the summer and will be easily recognizable in uniform.
Community members are encouraged to stop and talk with officers during their routes.
The department encourages residents and visitors to watch for the new bike patrol officers in Uptown Beckley starting June 30.
