GHENT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – New River Community and Technical College will offer three one-day Forklift Operation and Safety certification classes this summer at the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Ghent.
Classes will be held on the following dates:
- June 19, 2026
- July 10, 2026
- July 24, 2026
Each class will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New River CTC Advanced Technology Center in Ghent. The cost of the course is $350 per participant.
Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive a three-year forklift operator certification through United Rentals.
The Conventional Forklift Operation and Safety course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, hands-on skills, and safety awareness necessary to safely and efficiently operate forklifts in a variety of workplace settings. Grounded in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, the course covers forklift safety regulations, equipment inspections, controls and instruments, load handling, stability principles, and operational best practices.
Participants will learn how to:
- Navigate OSHA requirements for certified forklift operation.
- Identify and prevent common causes of forklift accidents and fatalities.
- Conduct daily pre-operation inspections and understand maintenance protocols.
- Safely operate and maneuver forklifts with and without loads.
- Understand forklift classifications, including OSHA Class 1, Class 2, Class 4, and Class 5 equipment.
- Properly utilize forklift attachments and evaluate associated safety considerations.
- Apply load-handling techniques based on the principles of forklift stability and capacity.
This training is ideal for individuals seeking employment in manufacturing, warehousing, construction, logistics, and other industries where forklift operation is required.
