CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A storm system is expected to bring widespread precipitation and much colder temperatures to parts of West Virginia later this week, with snow possible in the mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the system is forecast to move through the region Thursday, November 12, and Friday, November 13, bringing the next chance for widespread precipitation.
Forecasters say a cold front associated with the system will usher in much cooler temperatures across the region.
Rain is expected to be the primary form of precipitation for most areas. However, a mixture of rain and snow could develop in the mountains by Friday as temperatures drop.
The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures in the 50s across lower elevations Thursday before falling into the 40s Friday.
Mountain communities and foothill areas are expected to experience even colder conditions, with temperatures in the 40s Thursday and dropping into the 30s Friday.
While wintry precipitation is possible in higher elevations, the National Weather Service has not indicated whether any snow accumulation is expected.
Additional details regarding the storm system, including precipitation amounts and the potential for snowfall, are expected to become clearer as the week progresses.
