MONTGOMERY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Two men are facing felony charges after police say they stole nearly $6,000 worth of aftermarket truck wheels and tires before allegedly selling them for just $250.
According to the Montgomery Police Department, officers responded to a grand larceny complaint at approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, June 8, at a residence on Fourth Avenue in Montgomery.
The victim, Kyle Cook, told officers that a set of aftermarket wheels and tires, valued at approximately $5,948, had been stolen from the bed of his truck while it was parked outside his home.
Police said the theft occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, and 4 a.m. the following morning.
Several days later, on June 13, Cook reportedly recovered the stolen wheels and tires at a residence on Bryant Drive in Hernshaw, Kanawha County.
According to the complaint, the man in possession of the wheels, identified as Travis Harper, told the victim that the set had been sold to him by Donavan Floyd and Johnathan McBrayer for just $250.
The following day, Montgomery police traveled to the Hernshaw residence to continue the investigation.
There, officers spoke with Harper’s significant other, Alexa Keaton, who told investigators the two defendants initially arrived at the home with one wheel and tire and asked Harper if he wanted to purchase the entire set.
Keaton said Harper agreed to buy the wheels and gave the pair a ride back to Montgomery, where the remaining three wheels and tires had allegedly been hidden.
According to Keaton, the rest of the wheels and tires were retrieved, Harper paid the defendants $250, and left with the complete set.
Based on the investigation, Donavan Floyd and Johnathan McBrayer have each been charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of transferring and receiving stolen property.
The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
