BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Chapmanville woman is facing misdemeanor charges following an alleged assault and theft in Boone County.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Boone County Magistrate Court, Chasity Surgoine, 46, of Chapmanville, is charged with one count of assault and one count of petit larceny.
The complaint states deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Ottawa area around 7:57 p.m. on July 26 following a report of an assault. Dispatchers advised that Surgoine allegedly grabbed the victim and punched the victim in the face before taking the victim’s cellphone and purse.
Deputies later met with the victim at Dempsey’s Gas Station in Ottawa. According to the complaint, the victim told deputies Surgoine believed the victim was involved with Surgoine’s husband and had made repeated threats whenever the two had contact.
The complaint further alleges that approximately 20 to 30 minutes before the 911 call, Surgoine threatened to kill the victim. The victim also told deputies that Surgoine picked up a metal pole and said, “I’ll kill you and put you under my house.”
According to the complaint, Surgoine also allegedly grabbed the victim multiple times and took the victim’s purse. The purse was reported to contain approximately $50 in cash and was valued at about $40, bringing the total value of the allegedly stolen property to approximately $90.
A Boone County magistrate found probable cause and issued an arrest warrant on July 27.
The charges contained in the criminal complaint are allegations, and Surgoine is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
