PLEASANT VALLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A former Pleasant Valley mayor has been arrested and accused of embezzling more than $600,000 from the city following a two-month investigation.
Emily Haddix has been charged with two counts of embezzlement and one count of fraudulent use of an access device.
Following the arrest, the City of Pleasant Valley issued a statement addressing the charges and ongoing investigation involving its former mayor.
“The City of Pleasant Valley is fully aware of the serious charges and ongoing investigation concerning former Mayor, Emily Haddix. The Current Council for the City of Pleasant Valley would like to assure the residents that the actions of this individual do not represent the entire government or its dedicated employees. The Council for the City of Pleasant Valley would also like to assure the residents that city operations, public services, and daily business will continue without interruption,” the post said.
City officials also said they have been cooperating with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department throughout the investigation.
“The City of Pleasant Valley has been cooperating with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department during the course of this investigation and will continue to do so. The City of Pleasant Valley understands that it’s residents will have many questions. The City of Pleasant Valley is committed to complete transparency and will share verified updates as permitted by the ongoing legal process.”
Additional details surrounding the alleged embezzlement and how the money was reportedly taken have not yet been released.
The charges against Haddix are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
