WELLSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The principal of Brooke High School has been arrested after authorities say recording devices were discovered in areas used by female students at the school.
Eric Michael James, 53, principal of Brooke High School, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, as part of an investigation involving cameras allegedly found inside girls’ locker room and dressing areas at the school.
According to authorities, four recording devices were discovered in areas that included the girls’ physical education locker room, girls’ varsity locker room and an area used by the school’s dance team.
The investigation began after the devices were discovered at Brooke High School. School officials said they were made aware of the investigation Wednesday and that the devices were located and removed.
Authorities also executed a search warrant at James’ home in Marshall County. Electronic devices were seized during the search and are being examined by the West Virginia State Police forensic laboratory.
James faces felony charges related to intercepting electronic communications and entering or breaking and entering a nonresidence.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be filed depending on the results of the forensic examination.
James was being held at the Northern Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond following his arrest.
Brooke County Schools said James has been suspended from employment while the investigation continues.
