BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two Boone County parents have been arrested after two juvenile children were allegedly seen driving a Ford F-250 without adult supervision in Sylvester.
Jared Cain Kuhn and Amanda Kuhn were charged with misdemeanor child neglect creating risk of injury following the Aug. 29 incident on Peters Street, according to a criminal complaint filed in Boone County Magistrate Court.
West Virginia State Police and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded after a Boone County EMS crew reported seeing two juvenile children driving a Ford F-250 without adult supervision.
According to the complaint, the pickup was not initially found at the reported address. A Boone County deputy later located it parked between homes where Jared and Amanda Kuhn resided.
After officers confirmed the children were safe, investigators questioned the parents separately.
Amanda Kuhn told investigators she had been moving belongings to another house and had a child sitting on her lap while she was driving, according to the complaint. She reportedly told police she did not see the EMS crew and could not explain how the Ford F-250 came to be parked between the homes.
Jared Kuhn told investigators he was unsure whether the children had driven the truck and could not explain where they were at the time the EMS crew reportedly saw them driving.
The investigating trooper also reported overhearing Jared and Amanda Kuhn asking the children to be honest about whether they had driven the vehicle.
Police said the charges were based on the circumstances of the incident, statements provided by the parents, information reported by the EMS crew and the potential risk of injury to the children.
Under West Virginia law, a first offense of child neglect creating risk of injury is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, a fine of $100 to $1,000, or both.
The charges are allegations, and Jared Cain Kuhn and Amanda Kuhn are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
