MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Plans to build an RV park on flood buyout property in the Bailey’s Bottom area of Mount Hope are no longer moving forward, Mayor Mike Kessinger told residents during Tuesday’s Mount Hope City Council meeting.
Kessinger said the city is now considering other possible locations for the project and remains in discussions with the agencies involved.
“We feel pretty confident that Bailey Bottom is no longer an option. We are working through maybe some other areas or whatever, as we can, as far as getting that current approval,” Kessinger said.
Although the original location is no longer being considered, Kessinger said funding for the RV park appears to remain available.
“Hopefully, we can have a really good structure of where we’re going to be at that point and what our options are. It appears like the funding is still readily available, and we have enough time to make it work,” Kessinger said.
The city plans to hold a public meeting during the first week of October to provide residents with an update and discuss the project’s future. The exact date has not yet been announced.
“We’ll have a town meeting on this the first week of October. That date will be determined,” Kessinger said.
When asked whether the Bailey’s Bottom property could still be used for another purpose, Kessinger said the city is working to determine what may be permitted on the flood buyout land.
“Not for the RV park. No, not at this point. We are working with them to see what we can do down there because, obviously, we don’t want it to grow up into a jungle,” Kessinger said.
The public meeting is expected to be held the week before the council’s regular October meeting.
