FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County Schools is accepting applications for substitute bus operators and will offer CDL training later this month.
Bus operator CDL training will be held from Monday, Sept. 28, through Friday, Oct. 9, at the Fayette Training Center, formerly Rosedale Elementary School. Classes will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old. The application deadline is Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m.
According to Fayette County Schools, applicants will be registered for an online CDL training course at no cost. After completing the course and passing the required modules, applicants will receive additional training materials and move through the testing process.
The school system will also arrange a physical and drug test at no cost to applicants. Candidates must then complete the written test at the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles and obtain a learner’s permit.
On-the-road training will be provided to prepare applicants for the third-party examination. Once applicants receive a CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, they will complete 12 hours of additional on-the-road training with a certified trainer.
Applicants must also successfully complete an online school bus certification course, CPR/First Aid training and an examination administered by a state inspector.
After completing the requirements, applicants will be placed on a Board of Education agenda for approval to drive as substitute bus operators.
Applications are available at the Fayette County Board of Education Transportation Department at 111 Fayette Avenue in Fayetteville.
Fayette County Schools noted that successful completion of the state service examination does not guarantee employment, with final employment decisions remaining with the superintendent.
