LOGAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were killed and another remains hospitalized after three pedestrians were struck by a pickup truck Sunday evening in Logan County, according to West Virginia State Police.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, along WV Route 44 in the Whites Addition community.
Senior Trooper J.P. Ziegler and other troopers from the West Virginia State Police Logan Detachment responded after being dispatched by Logan 911.
According to State Police, three pedestrians were walking along WV Route 44 when they were struck by a 2018 Toyota Tacoma.
All three were transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Two of the pedestrians, identified as Clifford Chippent, 49, of Lyburn, and Tabitha Chippent, 45, of Lyburn, died from their injuries. The third pedestrian remains hospitalized and is receiving treatment.
State Police identified the driver of the Toyota Tacoma as William James Davis, 58, of Logan. Investigators said Davis remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The West Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
Next of kin has been notified, and the investigation remains ongoing. No additional information was immediately available.
