PINEVILLE, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Yesterday, Thursday, September 2, Wyoming County’s annual Labor Day festival kicked off in the town of Pineville, and the event’s hosts are already expecting a busy weekend.
The multi-day festival was canceled last year due to COVID-19, leaving the Pineville Fire Department wanting to host a bigger and better festival with the return of the event’s traditional activities, which includes games, carnival rides, food, live entertainment, a parade, fireworks and more.
“We just wanted to coordinate this to give the people in the area something to do,” said Mike Goode, Fire Chief of the Pineville Fire Department. “We have had a dreadful two years, and we are not out of the woods yet, but we would like to at least offer some entertainment for the kids.”
According to Goode, the festival’s opening day was a good opportunity for visitors to try out the rides and other offerings. He says the real fun will come this weekend, which will feature a great lineup of musicians such as Sean Benfield, the Big Planet Band, The Switch and more.
“This is a nice event on a small scale,” Goode said. “We are excited about it. We just enjoy seeing the people and watching the kids have fun. It kind of gives you a good sense. We want to invite anyone who wants to come down and enjoy the entrainment, food and games.”
Although the event is being held outside, Goode says the department is encouraging people to be mindful and try to practice social distancing. Masks will be provided to those who want them.
The event, which will conclude with fireworks on Monday night, is free and open to the public. Prices for games, food and items at vendor booths will vary.
