HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two individuals are facing charges after a vehicle pursuit and standoff on Tuesday.
The Huntington Police Department reports that, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, a vehicle which had been reported stolen the previous day was located at the intersection of 28th Street and 8th avenue by members of the Huntington Violent Crime Drug Task Force.
Officers with the Huntington PD attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle when the driver began to flee, initiating a vehicle pursuit.
The two individuals inside the vehicle, one of which was wielding a firearm, began to flee on foot before kicking in the door of a residential apartment which was occupied by a man and a woman. Negotiations were initiated once officers surrounded the residence, and the residents were safely removed from the building.
The Huntington Police Department SWAT Team was engaged and responded, unsuccessfully attempting to make contact with the trespassers for two hours.
The suspects eventually emerged from the residence when the Huntington Police Department SWAT Team “employed tactical measures that forced the suspects to exit the residence.”
Huntington Police Department officers took the suspects into custody for interviews and processing as Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force members executed a search warrant at the residence as part of the ongoing investigation into the situation.
Discovered by investigators were heroin, fentanyl, a handgun, loaded extended handgun magazines, ammunition, and a large amount of U.S. currency.
