FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Organizers for Bridge Day have announced that it is moving forward with the event.
The Bridge Day Commission held a public meeting to discuss plans on whether or not it would continue to keep the one-day festival due to the rising cases of COVID-19. Bridge Day officials have already canceled Taste of Bridge Day due to COVID-19.
During a public comment section, a healthcare worker voiced her concern about short staffing at local hospitals. The woman continued and said if there were any health emergencies, it would be hard to take care of those people due to staff shortages and hospitals at capacity.
Sheriff Mike Fridley spoke during the meeting and voiced his concern about his deputies catching COVID and not being able to enforce masks. Fridley went on to say he wanted the board to vote to cancel the event.
When it was time for a vote, Sheriff Mike Fridley made a motion to cancel it, but it did not pass. The board voted 4 to 2 to continue and have Bridge Day.
Bridge Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 16, 2021.
