Janice Eloise (Meadows) Cox, age 87, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021, in Pickerington, Ohio, after a long and fulfilling life. Mrs. Cox spent 64 beautiful years with her beloved husband, Joseph Cox, who passed on November 28, 2018.
Janice is survived by her two brothers, CQ Meadows of Ashland, Virginia, and Harry Meadows of Florence, South Carolina; her two children, Sarah (Cox) Markov of Manassas, Virginia, and Emily Cox of Valley Glen, California. Janice also leaves behind her two grandchildren, David A. Markov of Stafford, Virginia, and Matthew Markov, currently overseas with the Virginia National Guard.
Janice was born in Beckley, West Virginia, and moved to Ohio after marriage in 1954, living in New Albany, Ohio for most of her life. Janice took great pride and was a devoted alum to her alma mater Concord University in Athens, West Virginia, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. However, her heart and devotion as an elementary school teacher is where she had her most significant impact. During her 34 years of service to the Columbus (Ohio) Public School System, Janice opened the world of learning to nearly 1,000 elementary school students. Besides teaching, one of Janice’s greatest joys was watching and attending Ohio State Buckeye athletic events, especially football games, where she was a season ticket holder with her husband for nearly 50 years. She was also a life-long member of many organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Loyal Order of the Moose, the National Education Association (NEA), and the New Albany United Methodist Church.
