Poor Jenny had no friends, family or home. She was said to be living in a small shed situated near the train tracks. When sitting by the fire one night a spark flew onto her skirt, causing it to catch fire. In shock, Jenny ran out of her shack and along the tracks, hoping to find someone who could help her.
She screamed for help as flames engulfed her body.
In her agony, Jenny did not see the lights of the oncoming train. Although the train conductor tried to stop, there wasn’t enough time. Jenny’s screams of pain were quickly cut off as the train ran her over.
Over the years many engineers have said to hear a distant scream and see a blaze of light skirt across the tracks.
