The schedule for the girls basketball matchups of the 2023 New River CTC Invitational has been set with the tournament running from Jan. 3-7, 2023, at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
“We’re bringing our strongest girls field to Beckley for the fifth New River CTC Invitational with six of the seven teams ranked in the top 10 of their respective classification,” said New River CTC Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and College Foundation Michael Green.
Participating girls teams are the Huntington Lady Highlanders (2022 Class AAAA State Champions), the PikeView Lady Panthers (2022 Class AAA semifinalists), the Spring Valley Lady Timberwolves, the University Lady Hawks, the Wheeling Park Lady Patriots (2022 Class AAAA State Tournament), the Woodrow Wilson Lady Flying Eagles and the Wyoming East Lady Warriors (2022 Class AA State Runners-Up).
Matchups will pit three of the premier programs in the state as Huntington, Woodrow Wilson and Wheeling Park will be matched up against one another, Spring Valley will play University and Wyoming East, and Pikeview will play University to close out the exciting week of girls’ basketball action.
“The 2023 event will welcome 15 female all-state players, including four first-team selections, to the convention center,” Green added.
Girls’ All-State players include: 2022 Class AAAA first-teamer Alexis Bordas from Wheeling Park and 2022 Class AA first-teamers from Wyoming East, Maddie Clark and Kayley Bane as well as second-team all-state members Lala Woods from Wheeling Park and Abby Russell from Wyoming East, who was a first-team selection in 2021.
In addition, there will be numerous recipients of the all-state honorable mention awardees in Hallie Baile, Spring Valley; Allie Daniels, Spring Valley; Dria Parker, Spring Valley; Abby Dillon, Woodrow Wilson; Amara Jackson, Huntington; Jada Turner, Huntington; Hannah Stemple, University; Riley Meadows, PikeView; Cadee Blackburn, Wyoming East; and Colleen Lookabill, Wyoming East.
