Pipestem – Friday morning at Pipestem Resort, 15 players added their names to the list of qualifiers for the 103rd W.Va Amateur.
Beckley native Chris Daniels fired a four-under par round of 68 which included four birdies and two eagles to earn low medalist honors.
Shady Spring rising-senior Tanner Vest and Oak Hill’s Nathaniel Begley both shot two-under par to tie for second place.
Vest was steady all day making three birdies against just one bogey, while Begley carded four birdies and two bogeys in his round.
Blake Zambos from White Sulphur Springs was the only other player in red figures with a 71.
The remaining qualifiers included Brett Laxton, Chandler Beavers, Patrick Smith, Andrew Miller and Carson Proffitt all at one-over par 73, while Jordan Duncan, Josh Howell and Jimmy Jones all qualified by shooting 74.
Alex Kagan, Bryson Beaver and Kameron Lucky secured the last three spots with rounds of 75.
Berkley Aldwell and Todd Harris earned the two alternate positions.
The Amateur Championship will take place July 31 – August 3 on the Meadows Course and the Old White TPC at The Greenbrier.
The top-25 players from the 2021 WV Amateur have already secured a spot in the 2022 event.
Those players include defending champion Philip Reale, Hutson Chandler, Joseph Kalaskey, Noah Mullens, Alex Easthom, Chris Williams, Isaiah Zaccheo, Cam Roam, Christian Boyd, Ryan Crabtree, Howie Peterson, Jonathan Clark, Pat Carter, Davey Jude, Mitch Hoffman, John Francisco, Nick Dent, Jess Ferrell, Kyle Wensel, Joey Seabright, Nick Fleming, Jacob Nickell, Jackson Hill, Jeff McGraw, Woody Woodward and Ryan Mason.
Former Westside standout Tanner Walls also receives an exemption this year as a result of winning the 2022 Junior Match Play Championship.
