PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man faces assault charges after threatening two registered nurses at Princeton Community Hospital.
According to reports from Sr. Patrolman J.D. Shrewsbury of the Princeton Police Department, on Friday, October 28, 2022, Shrewsbury, along with Patrolman T.D. Cook, and Patrolman S.W. Owens responded to the Emergency Room Department of Princeton Community Hospital at approximately 10:14am regarding a combative patient.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with Nurse Mooney who disclosed that Eddie Washington, a patient receiving care in bed 16, had been irate and had been threatening the hospital nursing staff.
As Ms. Mooney was attempting to treat Washington, he reportedly declared “I’m going to smack the sh*t out of you.” Fearing for her safety, Mooney removed herself from the room.
Shortly after, Nurse Blankenship was attempting to treat Washington when he reportedly stated, “If you were a man I would beat your a*s!”
Ms. Blankenship also expressed fear for her safety and for the safety of the nursing staff.
When speaking to Washington directly, he claimed that he was not receiving the proper medical care due to the way his bandage had been changed.
Consulting Dr Smith, Officer Shrewsbury learned that Washington had been medically cleared and that he had no apparent holds.
The officer then returned to the room and placed Washington under arrest for two counts of assault on a healthcare provider for making independent threats directed at two registered nurses, causing them to fear for their own safety while they had been attempting to provide him with care.
Medical clearance paperwork was obtained for Washington and he was transported to the Princeton Police Department, processed per departmental procedure, and escorted to arraignment.
