HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Huntington Sanitary Board has released the schedule for city street sweeping set to begin next week.
The effort will begin on Monday, April 3, 2023, with sweeping occurring between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm.
The board notes that, rather than a beautification effort, the sweeps will be part of a necessary action to reduce stormwater impact throughout the Huntington area.
Large, brightly colored signage will be set up on Fridays to indicate areas in which sweeping is to occur. Motorists are to avoid parking in these areas, and members of the Huntington Police Department will be issuing citations to vehicles parked in such areas.
Sweeping will be limited to curbed streets, and items such as tree limbs, grass clippings, and leaves are prohibited from inclusion in the sweeping process.
The full release and 2023 street sweeping schedule as released by the Huntington Sanitary Board can be seen below.
“The Huntington Sanitary Board and Sweeping Corporation of America will begin the 2023 citywide street sweeping season Monday, April 3, as part of an effort to minimize the impact of storm water on Huntington’s roadways and prevent pollution.
It is important to note that this is not a beautification effort but rather a critical action to keep debris from entering the sewer collection system and treatment plant.
Residents are asked to keep an eye out for signage to give them advanced notice. Every Friday, large, yellow signs will be placed along street sweeping routes for the following week to inform residents that street sweeping is scheduled to occur in their area and to watch for “No Parking” signs.
The day before street sweeping occurs in a particular area, the large, yellow signs will be replaced with white “No Parking, Street Sweeping” signs that remind residents to remove their vehicles from the roadway during scheduled street sweeping hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Huntington Police Department will patrol and issue citations to vehicles parked in the sweeping zone during the scheduled hours.
Only curbed streets will be swept, and residents are prohibited from placing grass clippings, leaves and tree limbs in the street. Street sweepers will not remove these items.
