HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Hinton woman was charged after allegedly driving under the influence and hitting a child.
According to Police, on May 11, 2023, officers were dispatched to Bellpoint Park about a child struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, the suspect, Elizabeth Oliveros, told them she was leaving the park when she hit a child. Oliveros said she didn’t see the child or knew she hit the child until someone came out waving their arms.
Officers spoke to the witness, who said Oliveros hit the three-year-old child and didn’t stop until she started waving her arms. The child sustained a gash to her left elbow, a laceration to the left side of her belly, and a small abrasion behind her left ear.
When officers asked Oliveros if she had drunk or taken anything before driving, she replied and said she had taken suboxone and she smokes weed daily.
Police pulled her record, which showed she was driving suspended with two prior convictions dating back to 2011.
Oliveros was charged with a second offense of driving suspended and DUI causing serious bodily injury. She is being held in Southern Regional Jail under a 21,500 dollar bond.
