RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing charges after he fired shots toward a mother and two kids over a four-wheeler that broke down.
According to West Virginia State Police, troopers responded to the Glen Morgan area of Raleigh County over a shots fired complaint. When police arrived, the victim stated her child and his friend, who were both under 18, were riding their four-wheelers on a trail when one of them broke down.
The victim said she and her significant other went to assist the juveniles in fixing the four-wheeler when an unidentified man, later identified as Wayne Heflin, had begun a verbal altercation with them.
The victim said Heflin started yelling at her to “get off his mother(expletive) property” while aiming a handgun at them. Heflin then started firing shots at them. The victim told police that the trail the children were riding on was a right-of-way currently owned by the Beaver Coal Company, which the troopers confirmed through a West Virginia Tax Map.
When police spoke to Heflin, he admitted to shooting his gun in the air because the kids wouldn’t get off his property. Heflin also admitted to blocking the right-of-way trail in an attempt to block people from traveling on the trail.
Heflin was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment. He is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail under a 75,000 dollar bond.
