BIM, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One suspect was taken into custody last Monday after multiple gunshots were reported to have been heard in the Boone County area.
Sheriff Chad Barker of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office reports that, just prior to 12:00pm on Monday, July 24, 2023, Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched in response to reports of shots having been fired in the Bim area of Boone County.
Multiple people were discovered inside a residence which was involved in the incident, and during officer attempts to evacuate the residents from the building a minimum of one additional gunshot was detected.
Shortly afterward, contact was made by responding authorities with Billy Ray Castle – 39 years old of Bim, WV – who was determined to be a suspect in the shooting investigation. Officers were able to take Castle into custody without further incident, and the 39-year-old faces charges of Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm as well as four counts of Wanton Endangerment.
Sheriff Barker extended gratitude to other responding agencies for their assistance and collaboration in the response effort, name-checking the WV State Police, Madison PD, Danville PD, and WV DNR.
“It’s good to know that when things go south that all agencies are willing to band together and help each other,” said Sheriff Barker. “We were very lucky to escape the situation today without any further serious issues.”
