CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation has pledged $150,000 to support Appalachian communities affected by historic flooding in mid-February.
The funding will aid recovery efforts in Eastern Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and Southern West Virginia.
“This support aims to aid in the recovery process for the communities that have faced catastrophic damage,” said Janelle N. Coleman, president of the AEP Foundation. “During these difficult times, it’s crucial that we unite and extend our support to those in need.”
The AEP Foundation, funded by AEP and its utility operating units, provides ongoing resources for charitable initiatives, including disaster recovery efforts.
Of the total donation, the AEP Foundation contributed $50,000 to the American National Red Cross for its relief efforts in the Appalachian region.
Additionally, two AEP subsidiaries – Appalachian Power and Kentucky Power – are donating funds to organizations assisting in local recovery efforts.
The Appalachian Power Foundation provided $25,000 to the United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia and another $25,000 to the United Way of Southwest Virginia.
The Kentucky Power Foundation contributed $25,000 to the Appalachian Service Project in Eastern Kentucky and $25,000 to the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.
