BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fans of Raleigh County’s own Alabaster Boxer will have plenty to be excited about going into the new year, as the genre-bending ensemble will be performing live at the Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre for a show that will be captured for a posterity in the form of a full-length live album.
The Alabaster Boxer project, spearheaded by musician Nick Durm, delivered the Currency of Dreams album last year, which saw the contributions from an array of veterans on the local scene. Among those contributors were bluegrass picker and Long Point String Band member, Brian Bell, as well as multi-instrumentalist and Kid in the Background Inc. media group co-owner/founder, Jason Lockart.
The two joined Durm for a Thursday announcement detailing the upcoming show and planned subsequent live album, which will pressed to vinyl and made available for those who wish to secure their very own copy.
“Earlier in 2023 we completed and released the Currency of Dreams album. But a lot has changed,” said Durm.
“We’ve kind of grown, and a lot of the songs have changed. So, we thought it would be a really cool idea to kind of capture our authentic selves and give you just what you expect to see.”
Lockart noted that the decision to go forward with a live recording was also informed by a desire to present the band in the bare-bones context of live performance, eschewing the bells and whistles often prevalent in studio production.
“We have a tendency as musicians to sit and overthink and overthink,” Lockart explains. “With this band especially, I think that the most magical moments have happened with a live audience. So, we want to kind of capture that in a bottle, as they say.”
The show is set to take place at 8:00pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the iconic Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre located at 403 Neville St. in Beckley, WV. Alabaster Boxer is teaming with Indiegogo, Inc. and Big River Media to offer multiple options for those who wish to experience the show.
Interested parties can purchase everything from a single ticket or vinyl pressing to packages offering tickets, vinyl, t-shirts, posters, and more. Commemorative tickets will also be printed for the performance, giving those who attend a physical memento by which to remember the evening. Available packages and additional details on the show itself can be found here.
“If you can be in town February 3rd, at the Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre, we would love to have you be a part of this,” said Durm. “So, thank you in advance for that. If you can’t make it, you can still pre-order the vinyl or an awesome poster!”
