CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — It took a Bear of an effort for someone to topple the Philip Barbour Colts and end their two-year run atop Class AA.
Oak Glen did just that, led by four first- or second-team all-state players on the West Virginia Sports Writers Association’s list, released Thursday.
Senior Ashlyn Six completed the season with 308 kills, hitting .271, to go with 72 aces, 144 digs and 23 block assists.
Junior McKenzi Martin contributed 416 kills (.233 hitting %), 37 aces, 229 digs and 33 block assists.
The Colts also placed a pair, led by first-team captain junior MacKenna Halfin, who racked up 514 kills (.351 hitting %), 32 aces, 72 blocks (24 solo) and a team-high 391 serve receives.
Senior Katie Kennedy (560 assists, 210 kills, 32 aces, 34 blocks, 288 digs) joins her teammate Halfin on the first squad.
Herbert Hoover also earned two first-team slots for senior Kaili Casto (612 digs, 79 aces) and junior Ashton Henrich (324 kills, 442 digs, 106 aces).
Shady Spring’s duo on the first team is sophomore Reagan Mann (349 kills. .217 hitting %, 45 aces, 37 blocks, 302 digs and 522 assists) and senior Camille Testerman (259 kills, .216 hitting %, 63 aces, 40 blocks, 377 digs, 56 assists).
Two players are their team’s lone reps: Wayne’s Gabby Elliott finished the year with 403 kills, 114 aces and 280 digs and Frankfort’s Taylor Mandell tallied 305 kills, 50 blocks and 225 digs.
The second team is captained by Independence junior Aubree Cantrell, joined by Oak Glen sophomores Jersey Smith and Averi Smith, Winfield sophomore Brooklyn Cole and senior Albany Davis, Herbert Hoover sophomore Ahaziah Smith, Liberty Harrison senior Hailey Haynes, Philip Barbour freshman Finley Carpenter and Wayne junior Addie Adkins.
All-state plaques are available for purchase by past and present all-staters at wvswa.org or bearwoodcompany.com.
