WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – All Wyoming County schools will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 6, as the school system takes additional precautions in response to an ongoing skin-related health concern.
The Wyoming County Board of Education announced Monday afternoon that new information regarding the health concern prompted officials to order a countywide closure. School facilities will undergo a thorough deep cleaning during the closure.
Wyoming East High School and Westside High School will remain closed beyond Tuesday until further guidance is received from the Wyoming County Health Department and necessary cleaning by ServPro is completed.
School officials said there will also be no extracurricular activities anywhere in the county Monday, Oct. 5, or Tuesday, Oct. 6, including practices, games and other school-related events. Activities at Wyoming East and Westside will remain suspended until further notice.
At this time, the school system said it has not received an official diagnosis identifying the specific type of skin infection involved. Officials said they are working with the Wyoming County Health Department and are avoiding speculation until additional information is confirmed.
The situation will be reevaluated following Tuesday, with additional information expected as it becomes available.
