WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Power crews worked overnight to restore electricity to nearly 80% of the 11,200 customers who lost power during Wednesday’s storm.
The severe weather, which brought widespread rain and wind gusts of up to 50 mph, caused trees and power lines to fall across the company’s West Virginia service area.
As of 9 a.m. Thursday, approximately 2,400 customers remain without power, with Charleston being the most severely affected area.
The weather forecast for Thursday is favorable, allowing crews to continue restoration work without additional challenges.
Appalachian Power has provided estimated restoration times for 90% of affected customers in West Virginia:
- By Noon Thursday: Huntington, Point Pleasant, Ripley, and Wayne
- By 4 p.m. Thursday: Bluefield, Hamlin, Milton, and Wheeling
- By 11 p.m. Thursday: Beckley, Charleston, Clendenin, Elkview, Glasgow, Hico, Logan, Madison, Pineville, Walgrove, and Williamson
