PIMA, ARIZONA (LOOTPRESS) – Law enforcement officials in southern Arizona are searching for an 84-year-old woman who has been missing since Saturday night, authorities confirmed late Sunday.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue, north of Tucson. Family members contacted authorities around noon Sunday after being unable to reach her.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators are treating the case with urgency due to Guthrie’s age and health conditions.
“She is 84 years old and not in good physical health, which raises immediate concern,” Nanos said during a briefing Sunday. He added that conditions discovered at the residence prompted additional alarm among investigators.
“This is not a routine missing person case,” Nanos said. “The circumstances at the home are concerning enough that our criminal investigation unit, including homicide detectives, is actively working the scene.”
Authorities confirmed that Nancy Guthrie is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a longtime co-host of NBC’s Today show. Sheriff Nanos said Guthrie is believed to be mentally alert but suffers from physical ailments that limit her mobility.
Investigators have not ruled out foul play and say the search remains ongoing. Officials have not released further details about what was found at the home, citing the active nature of the investigation.
Anyone with information regarding Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department immediately.
