Shady Spring 5, Nicholas County 2
Shady Spring – David Young pitched a complete game as Shady Spring defeated Nicholas County 5-2 Thursday in Shady to advance to the Region 3, Section 2 championship game.
After a rocky start where the visiting Grizzlies scored two runs, Young settled down and shut them out the rest of the way.
Shady answered Nicholas with two runs of its own but scored the decisive run in the third and tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth for good measure.
Tyler Mackey was 2-for-4 at the plate for Shady, driving in two runs while catcher Parker Redden also drove in two runs.
Evan Belcher led Shady with three total hits.
Shady will play at Independence on Friday, needing to win two games to advance to the regional championship. Nicholas County concludes its season with the loss.

Wyoming East 7, PikeView 6
New Richmond – Trailing 6-5 heading into the the bottom of the seventh, Wyoming East scored two runs to eliminate PikeView and advance to Friday’s Class AA Region 3, Section 1 championship game against Bluefield.
Oak Hill 12, Beckley 8
Oak Hill – Beckley’s inability to hold a lead plagued it for the final time Thursday night as Oak Hill rallied to beat the Flying Eagles 12-8 in the Class AAA Region 3, Section 2 tournament.
With the win Oak Hill advances to the sectional championship game against Greenbrier East on Friday in Fairlea while Beckley is eliminated, concluding its season.
The Flying Eagles started off hot, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, but Oak Hill hopped right back in it, answering with four in the bottom of the frame.
Beckley made it 6-4 in the second, but a cascade of six Oak Hill runs in the bottom of the frame made it 10-6, putting the host Red Devils back on top for good.
