Bluefield 18, Graham 2 (5 Innings)
Bluefield – Kerry Collins pitched five innings, striking out 14 batters as Bluefield picked up an 18-2 win over rival Graham Tuesday at Bowen field.
Collins helped his own cause at the late, going 1 for 3, driving in three runs in the win.
Will Youther led the charge at the plate for the Beavers, collecting two hits and driving in four runs in total.
Bluefield improves to 4-0 and will travel to Greater Beckley on Saturday.
Independence 14, Midland Trail 2 (5 Innings)
Hico – Independence exploded for 10 runs in the second inning Thursday, defeating Midland Trail 14-2 in in five innings in Hico.
Atticus Goodson (3 for 3), Michael McKinney (2 for 2) and Carson Brown were all perfect at the plate for the visiting Patriots with McKinney and Brown driving in four runs each. On elf Brown’s hits was a home run. Elijah Farrington finished 2 for 3 at the plate for Indy, tacking on three RBIs while J.D. Monroe added two hits of his own.
Brown picked up the win for Indy while Dillon Darnell pitched three innings, striking out nine.
Trail was led at the plate by Griffin Boggs who went 2 for 3.
Indy improves to 2-0 and will face one of its toughest challenges on Saturday when it travels to defending Class AA champion Logan.
Trail improves to 3-1 and will host Pocahontas County on Saturday.
