BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Beckley is accepting new orders for Hometown Hero Banners during the month of February 2025. Over the past three years, 179 banners have been ordered and displayed on downtown light poles honoring local veterans. The banners are displayed between the months of May and November each year.
The Hometown Heroes Banner Program honors veterans, both living and deceased, and active-duty members of the Armed Forces from the Beckley area. Each banner features the veteran’s photo, name, and branch of service. The banners can be sponsored by companies, organizations, or families.
“Families who have participated are so proud of their banners. We look forward to hanging the banners again this spring and continuing to honor our veterans,” says Jill Moorefield of Beckley Events.
Past hero banners have been taken down after the Veterans parade to install Christmas decorations; the banners have been stored for the winter months. Past banners are re-installed, along with the new banners, during April or May, and the banners remain until mid-November.
The cost of ordering a banner is $90 (including tax); the city covers the cost of the brackets. Applications may be obtained at City Hall at 409 S. Kanawha Street or online at the city’s website (Beckley.org) during the month of February. Note that this year’s banner order may need to be limited to the first 30 new banners due to the number of light poles that will be available downtown for more banners. The city plans to place the complete banner order with banner company on March 4, 2025. For more information, contact Beckley Events at 304-256-1776.
