BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of Beckley City Council convened on Tuesday evening for a session addressing several agenda items, including a proposed contribution increase from the city to the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
Mayor Rappold on Tuesday noted the increase in expenses and expenditures impacting the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center, in which the City of Beckley is a one-third partner alongside the Raleigh County Commission and Raleigh County Board of Education.
The proposed increase would see the city’s $50,000 contribution to the facility undergo a 50% increase, bringing the annual amount to $75,000, mirroring an increase approved by members of the Raleigh County Commission earlier in the day on Tuesday.
City recorder and Treasurer, Billie Trump, during the meeting, advised that the decision to approve the increase would indeed be a wise one, with Mayor Rappold acknowledging the opportunities afforded to the area through the center. Ultimately, a motion was made and seconded for approval of the annual increase.
