BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley man is in jail after attempting to rob a woman and demanding a ride.
According to court documents, on July 25, 2021, Beckley police were called to Kroger at Beckley Crossing. When police arrived, they observed Michael England being restrained on the ground by a witness. The victim told police that she was returning to her vehicle, and England approached her, asking for a ride. The victim denied England a ride, and he stated, “yes, you are giving me a ride.” The victim shut her car door, attempting to get away from England, but he opened the car door and grabbed the victim’s purse and car keys. He told the victim, “I am taking your car and purse for a good reason.” England then tried to pull the victim out of the car but struggled. England then took off, and a witness chased him and restrained him until police could get to the scene.
England is charged with attempted robbery. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 75,000 dollar bond.
